I am writing tonight, live from Indianapolis. It is a cold 32 degrees here, but it feels good. Why would 32 degrees feel good, you might ask? Well, a month ago, I started a hormone treatment to see if it will successfully reduce the amount of endometriosis affecting my womb. How does this work? I am not sure exactly, but the doctor gives me a hormone shot called Lupron, which essentially sends my hormone cycle in menopause and somehow this will then cause the endometrial cells that are coating my ovaries and tubes to die (those cells are only supposed to be found in your uterus, but somehow they travel back through the fallopian tubes and into an area that is supposed to free from everything except, ovaries and happy little eggs and follicles ready to release and travel down the fallopian tubes where they happily await a meeting with a lucky sperm. But when endometriosis sets in it acts like scar tissue, entangling the tubes and making the passage of follicles from ovaries to fallopian tubes very complicated. Well, I am nearing the end of my 1st of 4 months of this treatment and I am having menopause like symptoms. So far, I am thinking 32 degree weather feels really nice as my body temperature has risen and I am somewhat inflicted and tormented by hot flashes. I am also more irritable and I would be lying if I didn’t say a little hot-headed as well. Poor Jason, he has taken the brunt of this, but has handled it lovingly and gracefully. I am also suffering from lack of sleep. I awake most nights at 3 am because I am hot and then I spend the next two hours tossing and turning and fighting with my body temperature and the right amount of blankets about every 15 minutes. I am either too hot or too cold. But, this is all worth it, if I can avoid surgery to remove the endometriosis. Lord, knows I could handle another abdomen surgery, but I sure don’t want to jump right into one without trying this first. I would much rather have surgery and bring home a baby, than to have surgery in hopes to make a baby, but we just have to do what we have to do. So, right now I am in love with 32 degree weather, and I sure wish I could open the window of this hotel room!
So, here I sit in my hotel room, thinking of my baby girl and hubby at home wondering if they are painting glitter on the butterfly Melanie has to make for school and wishing I could be home with them helping them out. I remember the first time I left Melanie to go on a business trip and how hard it was, but each and every time I leave them it never gets any easier and I am so very thankful that I don’t have to leave them very often. Melanie is very aware now of when a trip is coming. Last night she “helped me packed.” Bless her little heart, earlier in the day she just kept looking at me and saying, “Don’t go, Mommy” or “I want to go with you!” I find it very important to reassure her that I will always come home, so the last two days I read a book by Karma Wilson to her called “Mommy Always Comes Home".” It is very sweet, talking of animal mommies who leave and come home and then transitions into a Mommy who leaves her baby with Daddy and then comes home. I think it helped comfort her and enables her to better understand this whole concept. But it still doesn’t get any easier to watch Jason carry her out of the airport crying. I am so grateful for him and that he will comfort her through this. I also offered to Melanie that she could call me anytime, she immediately suggested and very firmly suggested that no Mommy I don’t want to call you, I want to talk to you on the computer! What an age we live in. So, here I am waiting for them to return so we can Skype or as Melanie calls it “talk on the computer!”
I will be here in Indy until Wednesday and then I fly to Philly and then onto Toronto. Then, it is Las Vegas late Friday night for the Nascar Race. Jason will be meeting me there and Melanie will spend the weekend with RaRa! I am sure they will have fun too! Hopefully Harvick will win!
Goodnight for now!
