Comforting Moments

I just savor those moments when after a long day you realize that your parenting and the choice you made for your children’s school is all good!  Sometimes, I need the reminder and last Monday night I had one of those moments.

After BSF, I arrived home and was looking forward to reading those notes. I am always on a high when I leave BSF, studying God’s word and Sandra’s lectures are thrilling.  When I walked past Melanie’s room and could see that she was still awake.  The house was quite as Daddy was already in bed and this little voice said, Mommy, I’m scared.  So, I set my bookbag down and climbed up into her bed for some cuddle time and to give her some reassurance.  We have been battling the nightime, I am scared to be in my room alone thing for a couple months.  So,after wiping a few tears,  I reminded her that there was nothing in her room to be afraid of and that if she is afraid, what are the things that she can do.  She bravely recited, I can pray, I can ask for Mommy or Daddy to lay with me and turn the light on.  So, we prayed and we started talking.  Mind you it is way past her bedtime, but sometimes the rules have to be bent for conversations such as these.

She asked me, “Mommy, what did you learn at Bible Study?”  Nothing like being put on the spot!   So, I told her that I learned about Isaiah and a vision he had of God and that God is Holy and that his holiness is nothing we can imagine as it is so perfect and infinite and that like Isaiah, when God asks us to do something we need to obey and follow His leading.  She then replies, “Mommy, I learned at school today, that “We don’t worship statues and that God wants us to worship him!”  And she proceeded to tell me the story of a King, who made a statue and wanted these 3 men to “bow down to it” but they said “No, we only worship the one true God!”  So the King made a fire and it got hotter and hotter and ordered the men into the fire, but they did not burn because “God protected them!”  And I replied, yes sweetie God protected them because he loves them the same way that God will protect you in your room!  It was cute that she couldn’t remember the names of the people, but King Nebuchadnezzar, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego aren’t easy names to remember nor pronounce.  We had a good conversation about obedience and loving our God!  It warms my soul!

It was at that moment that my heart was reassured yet again that the preschool we have chosen was perfect for us that they were helping us raise our little girl to fear the Lord!  I was also reminded that at the end of the day, when you are most tired that you can really be comforted by ignoring the clock, crawling up in bed with your little one and listening to what is on their mind.
