Visits with Grandma & Pappa always involve lots of activities. My mom is so patient and lets the kids do pretty much anything they want to. She lets the kids paint, cook and play. Pulling out ALL the toys and playing in the living room is a favorite activity of all of their grandchildren including Melanie. Blocks, dolls, Fisher Price play centers, strollers, tractors and many more toys she had never seen before were enjoyed. Making Valentines, painting pictures to hang on the refrigerator, decorating cookies and cupcakes for Valentines Day were just some of the special treats of staying at Grandma’s house. My mom told me that it is her greatest desire and wish that all her grandchildren will remember coming to grandma’s house and getting to play, paint, cook and garden - you know all those normal day to day activities that us parents really should do with our children but think we don’t have the time for.
One of the days, Pappa took Melanie shopping for what-ever she wanted at a couple local retailers. She chose a stuffed animal horse and purse, a John Deere tractor that plays “Old McDonald Had a Farm” and some more Schliech farm animals for her collection. It touched my heart to see them walking hand-in-hand down the street. (Melanie still isn’t too sure about her Pappa.) She loves to talk to him on the phone, but she still isn’t willing so sit on his lap.
I am thankful that we are able to visit them.
