This morning I awoke to a layer of frost on the grass and I am thankful for the cold. It just doesn’t feel like Christmas when you can still wear flipflops and short sleeves. So, this morning is a sweater, jacket and gloves kinda morning! Yeah!
I am thankful for my husband, who let me sleep last night as he tirelessly and despite his cold assembled a gift from my parents and sister for Melanie even though he asked for my help on 2 occasions . I was so tired last night! Today, I am ready to share in the joy of Christmas with Melanie and my family! There really is no other time of year this special and exciting. I can remember as a child the anticipation of Christmas morning and the excitement it brings. It used to make me almost sick to my stomach in anticipation! I can already see it in Melanie’s eyes! She is excited.
But last night’s conversation on the way home from some last minute shopping with Melanie proved to be the best part of Christmas yet! Melanie was talking to me about her friend Delayne, and at Delayne’s birthday party, there were two slides as the park that were broken. Melanie asked me if the people who broke the slides had Jesus in their hearts! Wow, how should I answer? Such a big question for 3 years old. I told her that I didn’t know if they had Jesus in their hearts, but what I do know is that when Jesus is in your heart, Jesus helps you to be kind and loving and so those people who broke the slides weren’t being kind and loving or if were they wouldn’t have broken the slides. Melanie then asks, “Mom, can they ever have Jesus in their hearts?” Oh, yes Sweetie, they Can! That is what is so special about Jesus, all they have to do is say that they are sorry for breaking the slides and ask Jesus to fill their hearts and HE WILL!
Can Melanie at the age of 3 accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior? Can Melanie fully comprehend what it means to have Jesus in her heart? One thing is for certain, I am thankful that she is already starting to put the gospel together in her mind and heart! Thank you Lord for filling Melanie’s heart and mind with these questions of your love and grace!
Melanie and I wrapped a few gifts together this morning and now she is looking at her baby book! She loves to do that! I think I will join her in looking back at her 1st Christmas
Merry Christmas - take time today and tomorrow to reflect on past Christmases both recent and ages ago!
