How can God be glorified in a preschooler’s parent teacher conference? Well, at the beginning of the school year, I asked the Lord very specific prayers regarding Melanie’s schooling and all have been answered! My big general prayers were that her teachers would glorify the Lord in their service to Him and Melanie and that her love of Lord would grow by being surrounded by her classmates and teachers. Today, it was wonderful to sit down with Melanie’s teacher and go over Melanie’s development, physically, spiritually, academically and socially. We opened the conference with prayer and it set the tone for a wonderful discussion of mastery and partial mastery. Melanie is progressing beautifully, with confidence and mastery in all but a few areas. The two areas of weakness and growth is that she is has been blessed with great leadership skills, she just needs to learn that God desires her to be a Patient Leader and to help her friends with Kindness and Humility. I wonder where she gets the lack of patience from, couldn’t be me, oh no, certainly not me. She also has a desire to talk with her friends during storytime or ask lots of questions thus interrupting the flow of storytime. So, I pray now that God would help Jason, I and her teacher teach her to have patience, and help with kindness and humility.
Mrs. Gustaff talked about how her class and Melanie are very concerned about each other, wanting to make sure that the “new” students have friends and aren’t alone and that each and every student has a turn, even when their turn may have been sacrificed due to poor behavior. I am trilled that these 12, 3 year olds can love and serve each other in this way. It speaks great volumes of what is in their hearts. It is now Mrs. Gustaff’s goal for the children to learn that they too can glorify God, through these kind, loving and patient actions.
I also just want to thank her teacher for being the teacher that God enables her to be! She hopes to have children of her own one day and I know she will make a wonderful mother. Mrs. Gustaff has a way with Melanie, that even I as her mother don’t have. For instance, at school Melanie eats all her food – except sausage and chocolate milk – when we struggle to get her to eat meat. She also sits at the table without squirming around to eat and Jason says she cleans up toys when asked the 1st time. So, I guess now we know she can do it, we are no longer going to be fooled. :-)
I am so proud of my little leader and thankful to be able to send Melanie to such a wonderful school!
