Snow Day 2010

IMG_3709

We left for Shirley Meadows at 9:30 am, with a group of our friends from Church.  This was the scenery on the way up!  Snow-covered pines, oaks and brush!  What a sight, at 4000 feet elevation!

30 inches of fresh powder – so powdery it was almost impossible to make a snow man!  But it was perfect for sledding and rolling around in – so soft!

Melanie and Emily making a tiny snowman.  Both girls just had a blast throwing snow at each other, making snow angels (Melanie’s favorite part of the trip) and going down the hills on sleds!

It was about 32 degrees and partly sunny.  Melanie did much better this year.  She didn’t mind sinking into the snow up to her waist and she climbed around in it really well.  She even rode down the big hills with Jason and I.  She still isn’t too fond of snow in her face, but who really likes it anyways.  But you do have to get snow all over yourself to truly appreciate it!

This is what the foothills look like after several storms.  This is what I imagine Ireland or Scotland to look like.  So green and lush.  It is awesome!
