Last weekend, while I was at the beach with my friends from church, Jason took Melanie to see Toy Story 3. Since Christmas she has watched 1 & 2 a few times, so she was primed and ready. Well, she loved it and all week long she has been talking about the movie, like she is a teenager and her heart-throb crush stared in it.
She keeps dropping little sayings like:
“Mom, you know what my favorite part was!'” or “Mom, Mr, Potato head did this” or “the dinosaur did this” or “Mom, the girl Woody – she is my favorite.”
Well, last night she took all the floor pillows and blankets and spread them in a pile in front of the sofa. Then she proceeded to climb up on the arm of the sofa (which is against the rules in our home). She stood up on the arm and jumped off into the pile and shouted “TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!”
It was all I could do to control the laughter and remind her that we don’t climb on the sofa – much less jump off of it! Sometimes being consistent in ones discipline is not fun!
PS. While I was at the beach, Jason was doing the shopping at Costco with Melanie on Friday night. She was twirling around in front of the cart and slipped and fell backwards into the basket. She hit the back of her head and split it open. The fire department came to the store and they went to the ER. He wasn’t going to wait until 1 am for her to be seen so he left. I so would have not done that. I would have sat there and struggled with her all night. So, they went home and he took her to Urgent Care Saturday morning. She got 2 staples! She told me that night that, “Mommy, the firemen – they had blue gloves and they gave me a teddy bear, with America on it!” I am so glad that she was distracted by blue gloves and teddy bears with stars and stripes on its shirt!
Thank God for my husband, who handled the situation, let me continue on with my trip and yet was kind and concerned enough about my feelings to call and tell me all that was happening!
Melanie did tell me though, that I was not allowed to go out of town again without her! :-)
